The Funeral Director Meeting

It’s normal for emotions to run high when someone you love has died. However, a lot has to be done and, difficult as it may be, you will be expected to contact a funeral home within a day of the person’s passing. Our Funeral Director will be there from the time of the death all the way through the process of planning, coordinating, answering questions.

When you’re in this emotional state, one of the most important things you can do is to lean on others for support. You may find it helpful to take someone along with you when you first meet with the Funeral Director. If you’re having a particularly difficult time dealing with the death, try and choose someone who can serve as a sort of “pillar of strength” for you.

Funeral and Memorial Service Planning

Meaningful funeral and memorial ceremonies make a significant difference in how families channel their grief toward health and healing. During the services, the community comes together and responds to the reality that someone has passed, and also to the reality that those remaining will need support, compassion, love, hope, and understanding.

You will choose where and when to hold the funeral or memorial service, as well as the musical selections, prayers, and the special personal touches that will help you commemorate the life of the person you held so dear.  We’ll advise you where we need to but it will be your choices and decisions that we’ll carry out.

What You Need to Know About Burial and Cremation Services

If you’ve chosen to have your loved one buried, you may wish to have the casket present at the service. In addition, many people choose to hold a viewing prior to the service. Whatever you decide, we will work with you to ensure that you have every opportunity to bring family and friends together to say a final goodbye before the burial.

Many families think that when they choose cremation, there is no way they can hold a memorial service, funeral, or remembrance service. In fact, we strongly recommend that you hold a memorial service to help you and your loved ones in the healing process. There are new options available to you which make it easier to bring cremation and ceremony together. We can provide you with a rental casket for your loved one so that family members and friends can benefit from attending a visitation and a funeral prior to the cremation.

Bring the Necessary Paperwork

After a loved one has passed on, dealing with documents and forms is probably the last thing you want to do. Unfortunately, just as paperwork is a fact of life, it’s a fact of death too. Your funeral director will need you to bring in several documents so that he or she can file claims with the life insurance company (if applicable), register the death, and take care of other required tasks. Fortunately, all you have to do is provide the paperwork and let the Funeral Director take care of the rest.

Things will go a lot more smoothly for you and everyone involved if gather the following documents as soon as possible:

·         Deceased birth certificate or parents’ names, including the mother's maiden name

·         Social Security Number

·         Military discharged papers of the deceased

·         The funeral pre-arrangement document of the deceased, if available

·         Cemetery information, if available

·         Durable Power of Attorney for healthcare of the deceased Revocable Living Trust

·         Last Will or Testament and any Codicils

Bringing these documents will make the process go more smoothly and quickly. For any questions, please do contact us as soon as you get a chance.
